Queen Elizabeth II watched Netflixs The Crowna biopic about her lifeand loved it, according to a royal source.

U.K. tabloid the Sunday Express shared the news on Sunday and said the Queen watched all 10 episodes of the series, which portrays her early life. The first season follows her rise to power, her marriage, and the lives of her family.

Now I can disclose that has watched all 10 episodes of the series, having been encouraged to do so by her son and daughter-in-law, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the article said, who arranged for Saturday night viewing sessions in the sovereigns private apartments at Windsor Castle.

Apparently, the Queen and her son have a longstanding arrangement that they all get together to have dinner on the weekends and watch TV.

Happily, she really liked it, the article said. Although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatised.

The Queens perspective that the show over-dramatizes aspects of her life may only grow in season two. According to series creator Peter Morgan, the show’s second season will feature Prince Philip having an affairwhich was a source of much speculation throughout the Fifties, when the next season will be set.

Other members of the Royal Family are also fans of the series. Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall, the Queens granddaughter, have all expressed positive remarks about the show. The music is wonderful; the story is beautiful and you feel very proud to watch it, Princess Eugenie said.

The Netflix showwhich recently took the crown as the most expensive TV series of all timejust finished filming season two and may return in November.

Archie Parnell, the Democrat running for the open U.S. House seat in South Carolinas 5th District, now trails Republican Ralph Norman by 10 percentage points, according to an internal campaign poll.

The margin is an improvement from a 16-point deficit in March, according to a summary of the Anzalone Liszt Grove Research Group polling obtained by HuffPost that wasfirst reported by The Washington Post.

The figures allow Parnell, a 66-year-old former tax attorney, to make the case for assistance from the national Democratic Party, despite the steep odds he faces. Parnell is due to square off against Norman, a conservative former state representative, on June 20, leaving him less than three weeks to pull off an upset.

The special election to fill the seat vacated by White House budget director Mick Mulvaney will occur the same day Democrats hope to take control of Georgias 6th Congressional District, where Democrat Jon Ossoff is up against Republican Karen Handel, with polls showing him ahead but in a close contest.

Parnells bid has received a fraction of the national attention and resources showered on the Georgia contest, which is on track to be the most expensive House race in history.

The political fundamentals of the South Carolina district make it clear why Democrats are wary of jumping in the race with greater gusto. Although President Donald Trump won by less than 2 percentage points in Georgias affluent 6th District, he won by nearly 20 points in South Carolinas 5th. Mulvaney modestly surpassed that margin with his landslide win in November.

And in Montana, where Trump also won the state by 20 percentage points, Republican Greg Gianforte defeated Democrat Rob Quist by 6 points last Thursday despite being charged withassaulting a reporter the day before.

Archie Parnell
South Carolina Democrat Archie Parnell commissioned a poll showing him catching up but still 10 percentage points behind his Republican opponent, Ralph Norman.

The Republican hold on South Carolinas 5th District is relatively recent, however. Mulvaney, who took the seat in the tea party wave of 2010, was the first Republican to represent the district since Reconstruction.

Parnell is hoping that anger at Trump will energize Democrats, particularly the districts sizable population of black voters, enough to drive up turnout in an off-year election where participation is normally low.

The internal poll shows that 50 percent of the districts Democrats believe the election is more important than most elections, compared with 26 percent of Republican voters.

But Parnell is also betting that the passage of the Affordable Care Act replacement bill in the Republican-controlled House can help him win over some independent or even Republican voters.

Fifty percent of voters in the district oppose the GOP bill to replace Obamacare, compared with 42 percent who support it, according to the campaigns poll.

Norman, who defeated a more moderate rival in a close primary, is an ardent proponent of Obamacare repeal and has said he would consider joining the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus if elected. (Mulvaney was a founding member of the group.)

Parnell, by contrast, has campaigned against the Republican health care bill and backs safe importation of prescription drugs as a way to lower drug prices.

The cerebral and soft-spoken Parnell hardly embodies the populist mood currently sweeping the Democratic Party; he most recently held a top post at Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs.

But Parnell claims that his colleagues at the liberal bogeyman called him the policeman for his work overseeing financial compliance and that his deep knowledge of the tax code equips him to fight for reforms that would make corporations pay their fair share.

In a new video advertisement released Tuesday, Parnell makes light of his wonkish disposition by contrasting himself favorably with Frank Underwood, the debonair, Machiavellian protagonist of the TV series House of Cards, whose fictional district resembles Parnells.

Parnell mixes goofy, Underwood-style one-liners with actual facts about Trumps presidency as the theme music of the Netflix show plays in the background.

The ad concludes with text onscreen saying, Archie Parnell is no Frank Underwood. And Washington shouldnt be like House of Cards.

Real estate mogul Thomas Barrack, under investigation in Italy, played a critical role in Trumps 2016 US presidential campaign

A close friend and major fundraiser for Donald Trump is under investigation in Italy for allegedly evading 170m (147m, $190m) in taxes after the sale of a luxury resort on Sardinias Emerald Coast, the beach playground frequented by Gulf Arabs and Russian oligarchs.

Thomas Barrack played a critical role in Trumps 2016 election campaign and inauguration and has been described as one of the presidents key advisers outside the West Wing.

At the heart of allegations against Barrack in Italy are claims that he and associates in his private equity firm, Colony Capital, orchestrated a complicated scheme involving Luxembourg-based companies to shield tens of millions of euros from Italian tax authorities after Colonys 2012 sale of the Costa Smeralda resort to Qatar for 600m ($670m).

Barrack and other executives have not formally been charged with wrongdoing. A spokesman for Colony Capital declined to comment on the allegations against the company and its executives. According to a legal document that was prepared by a prosecutor in Sardinia and obtained by the Guardian, investigators used wiretaps in their inquiry, which is a fairly common practice in Italy.

Last year, Barrack helped to recruit his longtime close friend, the former lobbyist Paul Manafort, who had a history of lobbying on behalf of Russian and Ukrainian interests close to Vladimir Putin, to join Trumps campaign. Manafort served as the campaigns chairman before he resigned. Manafort, who went yachting on the Mediterranean with Barrack after his departure from the campaign, is now a key figure in the FBIs investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.

Barrack, who saved Michael Jacksons Neverland ranch from foreclosure while the singer was still alive, was the first major business figure to lend Trump his stamp of approval, calling the Republican candidate intrinsically and academically first class and kind, compassionate, empathetic.

A recent profile described the real estate mogul as impeccably fit at 69. His close friend and business partner, the actor Rob Lowe with whom Barrack and others bought Hollywood studio Miramax before selling it in 2016 to a Qatari media group told the LA Times that Barrack used his private plane the way his own children used Uber.

When I get him on the phone, hes as likely to be in Riyadh or Paris as he is to be in LA, Lowe told the newspaper. The fact that Barrack is sitting at the table with Trump should make everybody happy, he said.

In the run-up to the election, few endorsements of Trump seemed as personal as those delivered by Barrack.

Donalds natural alliance is with the little guy, Barrack told Charlie Rose during the Republican National Convention last year. He is a disruptor a man who can step into the middle of the fray and take the heat.

The Italian investigation into Barracks financial activities in Sardinia is unrelated to Trump and Manafort. But it relates to Barracks dealings with Qatar, and Barrack who speaks Arabic and began his career working for the Saudi royal family is seen as having influence over Trumps Middle East policy.

Shortly before the US election, Barrack called for a radical historic shift in [the US] outreach towards the Arab world, singling out brilliant young leaders in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia who he claimed represented the regions best hope. Writing in Fortune, he also said that the only solution [to the Syrian war] is one that works with Russia and not against them.

Barracks business ties to the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the sovereign wealth fund, and its 2012 purchase of four luxury hotels and acres of undeveloped land in Sardinia, which were acquired through a subsidiary of QIA, are now under intense scrutiny.

Details of the allegations are complex and involve several entities that are based in Luxembourg, a tax haven, and the US state of Delaware, where many shell companies are incorporated. Deutsche Bank, which also serves as a private bank for Trump and his close family and has been mired in legal troubles in the US, advised Colony on the deal.

The Costa Smeralda, as it is known, was established by the Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims, in the early 1960s. He wanted to develop the 35-mile patch of northern coast for his close friends. Decades later it became a hotspot known for attracting the worlds richest playboys and their yachts.

A prosecutor in Sardinia, who declined to comment on the case, is examining whether the Los Angeles businessman and his associates purposely sought to load an entity linked to the Sardinian resort with artificial debts in the years before it was sold in order to structure the sale as a tax-free transaction. As part of the alleged scheme, a Colony-linked entity sold bonds to a major hedge fund called TPG Axon.

Details of the alleged tax dodge are contained in a legal document prepared by a prosecutor that outlines the charges that are expected to be filed against Barrack and other Colony Capital executives, among others.

According to the document, a Luxembourg-based unit of TPG Axon, along with various Colony Capital entities, are under investigation for being part of a criminal conspiracy to create a tax scheme that defrauded the Italian treasury.

Under Italian rules, a prosecutor must first formally notify individuals that they are under investigation before charges can be filed, a process that a person familiar with the inquiry said has begun.

A spokesman for TPG Axon said it loaned money to a Colony Capital entity but its role was passive. The allegation as made is completely without merit, the TPG Axon spokesman said.

Barrack is not the only individual named in the legal document. The alleged conspiracy, which also involved alleged public corruption, names 23 individuals, including an Italian senator for Forza Italia, Franco Carraro, and Aleksandra Dubrova, Barracks Russian-born associate who was once listed on Colonys website as a vice-president in charge of managing the companys European investments.

A lawyer for Carraro declined to comment.

A lawyer for Dubrova, who resides in Rome, criticised the investigation, which he said had involved wiretaps, seizures and searches and was very complicated.

The investigation is full of problems, full of issues, full of defects. For what it concerns my client, the Russian lady Aleksandra Dubrova, she is absolutely innocent and not involved in any of the allegations moved against her, the lawyer Emilio Riccio, said. He said her position at Colony had changed.

Six of the executives named in the legal document who are connected to Colony Capital though not Barrack himself are being represented by Paola Severino, a Rome-based lawyer and former justice minister. Severino declined to comment.

The Qatar Investment Authority did not respond to several requests for comment.

Last year, Italian media outlets reported that Barracks company paid 22m ($25m) to settle legal questions over the tax treatment of the property sale to Qatar. But that did not end the investigation into the transaction. A spokesman for Colony said the firm could not verify whether it made the payment.

Colony Capital is merging with two other companies to create a new company, Colony NorthStar, which will have more than $58bn (52bn) in assets under management.

Phil McCarten

Its bizarre to think that thingslike thisdo in fact happen to beloved celebs.

Though Feratovic was released from custody on Wednesday, May 24, and plead guilty to trespassing, reports from both the and TMZ claim he has no intention of backing down in his pursuit of the Diamonds singer.

These are extremely concerning reports, and we just hope Riri remains cautious during this time.

There has never been a better time in history to be a music fan. Sure, in the 1800s if you were rich, you might have gotten to see the debut of a Brahms symphony, and in the 1960s, you might’ve been able to see the Beatles and all sorts of other incredible acts on the same bill, butare no longer limited by what is in your local record store. Now you can access nearly any piece of music you can imagine from your phone for the cost of a fast-food combo meal.

While many streaming options exist, Spotify reigns supreme. If youre new to the service, this crash course will give you the lowdown on all things Spotify, from its cost and best features to what makes it different from other streaming services.

What is Spotify?

Born from a Swedish start-up in 2006, Spotify launched in 2008, and it’s slowly changed the way millions of people listen to music over the course of the last decade.Think of it like a jukebox you only need to feed once, or a radio that plays what you want in between ads. Spotify’s music library contains everything from mainstream pop hits to obscure death metal classics. Have a favorite country artist thats been out of print since you were young? Theyre probably on Spotify. Looking for rain sounds? Good news,

While the library is missing some important deep cuts from sub-genres (sorry Lip Cream fans, youre going to have to stick with YouTube streams), the sheer depth of the Spotify catalog is jaw dropping, and many of the last big holdouts (the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc.) have made their discographies available in recent years, including all of those deluxe edition box sets you could never afford.

How much is Spotify Premium?

Spotify costs $9.99 a month, with the first three months covered for just $0.99. That gives you access to their complete library of music, videos, and podcasts 100-percent ad free. Also, you get access to high-quality audio streams. As someone who used the Premium version for months before turning on the high-quality audio options, let me tell you, it makes a massive difference. It basically takes your streams from digital radio to CD quality. Premium members also get a host of other special features well cover later.

Family plans, the allow for up to five people to use the service, are available for $14.99 a month. Each family member gets their own individual account, so your Mom wont find your Darkthrone songs popping up in her recommended playlist.

Student plans are also available for $4.99 a month with proof that youre attending a U.S. Title IV accredited school.

Is Spotify free?

It is if you need it to be, but the free service comes with some caveats. First off, if you listen on your phone, you cant listen to albums all the way through. You can play artists via shuffle, with ads between the tracks, but you cant choose specific tracks, and you can only skip six songs an hour. Sometimes tracks from similar artists will be mixed in. Its fine if you love Pandora, but it’s lousy if you need to hear your favorite track when you want to hear it.

PC and tablet users can listen to Spotifys complete collection however they like, including full albums, with ads only getting in the way of the experience every once in a while. If you listen to Spotify when youre going to bed, that’s could be a deal-breaker. Nothing is worse than a Jimmy Johns ad in the middle of your sleepy-time rain sounds.

The best Spotify features

Offline Listening

If youre not yet sold on giving Spotify your money, offline listening will probably change that. Offline listening allows you to download albums from Spotify onto your phone, so you can listen on the go without eating up all of your data. This feature alone is worth $9.99 a month. For the cost of what a CD on sale at Best Buy, you can download anything you want to your phone. Once upon a time, filling up an iPod required hours of ripping CDs or buying tracks on iTunes. Now you can fill your phone with hours of music for one flat rate.

Spotify

Discover Weekly

While the idea of a weekly curated playlist of songs that might interest you sounds good, the reality of Spotifys Discover Weekly features is better than you can imagine. Each week the app analyzes your listening habits and builds a playlist just for you. Playlists based on listening habits arent new, but no one does it as well as Spotify. Its algorithm digs deep, drawing from classic records and new releases from the genres you listen to the most, to build a new intriguing playlist each week. While the sheer depth of Spotify’s selections is remarkable, the real gem of the feature is the sequencing. Discovery Weekly playlists flow beautifully, so while you might end up with say rap, metal, and folk on the same playlist, those tracks will be grouped together in a way that makes sense.

Spotify

Your Daily Mixes

If Discovery Weekly wants to help you make new music friends, Your Daily Mix wants to keep you close with your old ones. Providing six nuanced playlists based on your regular listening habits, Your Daily Mixes let you quickly find the perfect playlist for any mood. Each mix gives a few examples of artists featured, keeping like-minded genres and themes together. If you skip around between genres, frequently it can be fun to see how Spotify views your listening habits and try to make you happy in your Daily Mixes.

Screengrab via Spotify

Add tracks from Shazam

Avid Shazam users get a new feature when they use Spotify: the ability to add tracks theyve Shazamd to their Spotify account. Just identify a song with Shazam and the app will offer the option to add the song to your connected Spotify account. It’s an excellent way to save the music you discover at social functions for later listening.

Private listening

It seems like every app has a social function these days, and Spotify is no different. Your friends can follow your listening, check out your playlists, and see any potentially embarrassing listening revelations. Of course, if youd rather your friends and enemies not see that you listened to I Want It That Way 14 times last night, Spotify offers up a private listening option that allows you to keep your music habits a secret.

Podcasts

While streaming apps like Stitcher give you access to thousands of streaming podcasts and radio shows, installing them means yet another app on your phone. Spotifys addition of podcasts changes the game, allowing you to manage your podcasts and music all from one app like you used to be able to in iOS many years ago. Spotify’s selection of podcasts is constantly growing, so if your favorite isnt there yet keep checking back. The only downside is that podcasts are only available on mobile devices and not the desktop app.

Spotify Radio

If youre a Pandora junkie, Spotify Radio gives that service a run for their money. Radio stations are curated by genre and most recently listened to artists, though you can make your own with the handy Create new station button. Radio stations use the same philosophy as Discover Playlist, pulling out deep cuts alongside the biggest hits of your stations respective genres. Country fans will appreciate the odd George Straight track on the Zac Brown Band channel, while rap fans may be surprised to see Big L appear during their DMX radio experience. When you have a party, let Spotify Radio handle the DJing.

Does it Spotify support Linux?

Spotify if available for Linux users, but while the company tries to keep the app updated, it’s officially unsupported. That means you may not always get the same updates, features, and options that come with the standard Spotify program. However, you still get access to Discovery Weekly, the worlds biggest library of music, podcasts, and other great features. For help installing Spotify on Linux, go here.

Spotify vs Apple Music

Of all the services that compete with Spotify, Apple Music has the best rival features. First of all, Apples exclusive deals mean Apple Music is occasionally the only place youll be able to hear a new record, like Frank Oceans Blonde. The company has said in the past that it’s moving away from album exclusives, but just this past March it had 300 million streams of DrakesMore Life. If you need to listen to the newest release the second it comes out, Apple Music may be able to sway you.

Apples Beats One radio offers the best traditional radio options on the digital landscape, complete with on-air hosts from around the world and shows that regularly debut new music. Legendary DJ Zane Lowe left the BBC to join Beats One, and the online service is the only place to hear Drakes OVO Sound Radio. However, Apple music lacks Spotifys powerful recommendation options, so while it’s easy to find what you love, discovering new options can take more work.

Apple Music costs $9.99 a month, or $14.99 a month for a family of up to six people.

Google Music vs Spotify

If you watch a lot of YouTube, Google Play Music can be a good deal. It includes YouTube Red for free with your subscription, giving you an ad-free viewing experience on the video site. Given a large amount of music found on YouTube, that may sway you. Play Music shares Spotifys ability to predict what youll want to listen to next with its radio feature, and it offers a massive library of music, which you can save on your phone for offline listening.Google Music costs $9.99 a month, or $14.99 a month for a family of up to six people.

However, it lacks a good desktop app, making building and curating your playlists a little difficult. Google Play Music is fine. Its just not the best service that exists, with few exclusive features to draw in users. YouTube fans will love it, though.

Google Play Music

Spotify vs Tidal

Relaunched by Jay Z with help from a host of other music icons, Tidal seemed like it was going to be the future of music streaming for a moment. They offered the best quality sound, a large catalog of exclusives, and high definition music videos directly on their service. While Tidal is still the only place you can find things like Jay Zs complete discography andBeyonc’s Lemonade, it recently lost its exclusive rights to Prince’s albums, creating one less reason to subscribe.

Tidal costs $9.99 a month for the standard premium service, or $19.99 a month for its lossless high fidelity service. Be careful though to subscribe through its website and not the iOS app. Subscribers who join via the iOS app pay 30 percent more for the service due to Apple Store fees, with costs of $12.99 and $25.99, respectively. If youre willing to pay a high premium for superior sound quality, or frankly have the sort of equipment where you could notice the difference in sound, Tidal may be worth considering. Otherwise, its simply too much money for not enough extra features.
