These days, we all have moments where we seriously struggle to stay occupied, entertained, and positive. While some decide to bring a bit of normalcy back into their lives by getting at-home haircuts or recreating paintings, others get even more creative with all the extra time they have. Take, for instance, Liz Koto’s family from Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, who decided to entertain both themselves and neighbors by asking them to recreate a sketch called “The Ministry of Silly Walks” from the Monty Python comedy troupe’s television show.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the sketch centers around a minister with a very peculiar way of walking. The minister meets a man named Mr. Pudey at his work, The Ministry of Silly Walks, where the man asks him for a government grant to develop his own silly walk. Liz, who works for local jurisdiction, told Bored Panda that the way Monty Python pokes fun at the inefficiency of government is exactly why she loves this sketch.

When asked how did she come up with the idea to recreate the sketch Liz said: “My husband and I were on a quarantine walk with my kids biking ahead of us and it just sort of came to me”. To make it come to life, the family put up a sign on the sidewalk right in front of their house, which reads as follows: “You have now entered the jurisdiction of silly walks. Commence silly walking immediately.” Finer print reads: “Follow @Yorkshire_Silly_Walks for highlights. Your walk may be posted! We’re all in this together so let’s have some fun while we can! (Don’t know how to silly walk? Google Monty Python Ministry of Silly Walks for inspiration.)”

As it turns out, the neighbors are quite good at silly walking! “My neighbors seem to love it. Some of them walk by more than once a day and make sure to silly walk,” she said. To share the amusing results, Liz created an Instagram account called Yorkshire Silly Walks. Unsurprisingly, people loved the idea and started sharing her videos across various social media platforms.

Despite everything that is going on right not, Liz told us that her family is doing well and she seems to be enjoying this extra free time she has right now. “My husband and I are essential workers so we are fortunate,” she said. “I have more time on my hands to do stuff because we aren’t dealing with two full time employees at work all day, school, homework, extracurriculars and the general craziness of life.”

So you think you had a bad day during the coronavirus quarantine. Maybe your internet went down in the middle of your online work presentation. Maybe you tried making IKEA’s Swedish meatballs at home and accidentally made one giant meatball. It’s not the end of the world. Especially when you take a peek at how some people are dealing with bad luck during the quarantine.

Can you imagine how messed up it would be for your hair clippers to sputter and die while you’re in the middle of shaving your head? Or if falling trees crushed your cars?

To brighten up your day and give you a big dose of vitamin L(aughter), Bored Panda has collected the funniest times that people had a very bad day during the quarantine. So scroll down, upvote your faves, and share your own quarantine fails in the comments below. Oh, and you can find our previous post about people having a worse quarantine than you right here. We might not be able to avoid bad luck, but we can take care of our health during the pandemic. Scroll down for Bored Panda’s interview with Dr. Natalie Ashburner, Wellbeing Lead at The Doctors’ Association UK, about how to maintain your physical and mental health during the pandemic.

But it’s not just bad luck that we have to worry about when staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic. While bad things sometimes do happen to good people, the things that we do (or don’t do) can also have far-reaching consequences.

The two main things that can have a negative impact on your well-being are a lack of physical activity and a lack of social contact. We’re called social animals for a reason: we need other people to thrive.

According to Dr. Ashburner, it’s recommended that everybody does some form of physical activity each and every day.

“For many people who are now working from home or not working at all due to social distancing, it is likely that their physical activity will also be reduced. It is, therefore, more important that they make time for this every day.”

She continued: “The NHS recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week which is best spread throughout the week. They also recommend doing muscle-strengthening exercise such as yoga or lifting weights twice a week.”

Dr. Ashburner stressed how important it is for your mental health to maintain contact with friends and family. “We recommend that some form of social contact is made every day, even if you don’t particularly feel like it. This is best in the form of telephone calls or video calls but texting, social media, and playing games online are all ways to feel socially connected,” the doctor said.

“Try to get creative. perhaps you could set up a virtual book club, film night, or quiz night,” she added.

The doctor said that it’s difficult to predict the effect that the coronavirus pandemic will have on mental health. “There are numerous COVID-19 related factors that could worsen someone’s mental wellbeing, both relating to effects of the virus, for example, trauma, physical disability and bereavement, and the effects of the measures used to prevent the virus, like social isolation, relationship breakdown, loss of occupation and financial difficulties,” she told Bored Panda.

“Unfortunately, many people’s homes are not a safe environment which can also put both their physical and mental wellbeing at risk. Others may have lost their usual coping mechanisms and could turn to more harmful ways of coping such as alcohol or other substances. Healthcare workers are also particularly at risk due to occupational trauma and stress.”

Dr. Ashburner mused that we might see the ripple effects of the coronavirus on mental health for many months (and possibly even years) to come. “However, the most crucial point is that mental health services will remain open throughout this crisis and will continue to provide support and treatment to anyone who needs it, so please do not be afraid to seek help.”

The doctor shared that the NHS provides information about mental health right here.

A 2015 meta-analysis of over 308k people found that you are 50 percent more likely to die if you have weaker social relationships.

“If we think about loneliness as this adaptive response kind of like hunger and thirst, it’s this unpleasant state that motivates us to seek out social connections just like hunger motivates us to seek out food,” lead study author Julianne Holt-Lunstad explained to Business Insider how our need for relationships is hardwired into us.

However, she pointed out that during the pandemic, people need to endure the lack of social contact to protect their health. It’s a real dilemma, but you can maintain social connections by phoning, messaging, or video chatting with the people you care about. It’s a crutch, but it’s the best alternative at this time.

If you stumble upon this picture while surfing the internet, it might seem like nothing but a nice shot of a butterfly chilling on a sunflower. You would probably have a hard time figuring out what’s so amazing about this and might need to look very closely to spot the true masterpiece in this photo―this butterfly is actually a human!

Fine art body painter Johannes Stötter uses paint to camouflage his living models into their surroundings or to recreate various forms we see around us, from animals to inanimate objects, like shoes. The skillful painting and curves of a live model blend together perfectly, creating a mind-bending optical illusion that looks incredibly realistic.

This Italian artist is well-known worldwide for his mind-blowing body painting, with numerous awards and viral artwork in his pocket. His latest illusion called “The Butterfly” was dedicated to his little daughter, Linnéa, and he believes it’s his best artwork so far.

Check out other posts on Bored Panda here, here, and here to see more of his stunning illusions and try to spot naked people in them!

An illusionary masterpiece like that takes weeks of planning and hours of precise work

Johannes told Carter News Agency about his creative process and how his latest masterpiece “The Butterfly” started with a small sketch that he made with a pencil. From there, he went on to create a bigger sketch with colors.

“Then I painted the background with the big yellow flower. In the end, I did the actual body painting,” he revealed to LADbible. “So far, everyone has reacted very positively and many people agree that this is my best artwork so far.”

The Italian artist explained that the idea for how everything should be positioned came to him instantly, but the rest of the process took a lot of hard work. According to him, the main challenge was getting the model into the right position.

“I think it is a very beautiful picture, even if you don’t know that it is a body painting,” Johannes said about his work.

He had no doubts about who to pick as his model—he chose Laura because he thought she’d be perfect for the role of the butterfly.

“She is very nice, beautiful inside and outside, and a strong, patient model,” he complimented the model and said that she was very dedicated to her job. “I think Laura loved being the butterfly. Even though she had to go through the whole process five times, she remained calm and patient and did a wonderful job.”

Johannes praised Laura for being able to hold the position for such a long time and pointed out that it’s incredibly difficult to do this because it taxes the body.

Johannes’ career took a huge upward turn in 2013 after his tropical frog illusion, where he painted 5 models, went viral. Since then, he’s been collecting awards for his art and keeps getting featured by the press.

He lives in the Alps, in Northern Italy where he gets much of his inspiration from the local nature. The artist values creativity, spirituality, music, and alternative living which he tries to unite into a seamless whole through his art. Johannes also teaches bodypainting workshops and his exhibits can be seen all over the world.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused many things to happen, some predictable, others not so much. European leaders have confined people at home and their approval ratings soared. Some right-wing politicians have temporarily socialized their national economies. And as the world faces arguably the worst global health crisis in a hundred years, there’s been a mass outpouring of jokes and general silliness. Even if we are scared, we’re coping with our fears through laughter.

This should be #1

According to Tom McTague, the why of humor has long been a mystery. “For ancient Greek philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle, it was a dangerous phenomenon, something that had the potential to undermine authority and the good order of society. Laughing at those in charge was a serious issue then (and still remains the case in more autocratic parts of the world). Today, in democratic societies, we know the importance of mocking those with power, and we celebrate it, on Saturday Night Live in the United States and Have I Got News for You in Britain,” McTague explained in The Atlantic.

That is too funny.

However, the writer thinks humor is more than thumbing our noses at power. “It is slapstick as much as satire, a man hitting another man with a frying pan; Kevin McCallister terrorizing Harry and Marv; Ross, Rachel and Chandler struggling to get a sofa up the stairs to Ross’s apartment.”

The late Robert R. Provine, a professor at the University of Maryland who was of the world’s leading experts on laughter, said that laughter was our way of bonding. “Most people think of laughter as a simple response to comedy, or a cathartic mood-lifter,” he wrote. “Instead … I concluded that laughter is primarily a social vocalization that binds people together.” We laugh with others to give us “the pleasure of acceptance,” Provine argued—to show that we are the same.

And when you think about it, it totally makes sense. Professor Naomi Eisenberger, a social psychologist at UCLA known for her research on how the brain behaves when it experiences social rejection and disconnect, told BBC that our current situation, with billions of people cut-off from their normal lives, is unprecedented. She pointed out the importance of people living alone trying to stay connected with those we care about.

Professor Stephanie Cacioppo, an expert in behavioural neuroscience and psychiatry at the University of Chicago, added that adjusting our mindset and expectations is key to avoiding feelings of loneliness.

“Right now you live alone. And right now you have no choice. So you can either scream all day long or make the most of it,” Dr Cacioppo said.

Which is precisely what these people are doing through their signs. Consioucly or not, they’re following these advice and connecting to one another in a time of isolation using humor. They’re making the most out of it.

You’re a hero. You’re saving us all. We can’t live without you. Your hair looks amazing today, what kind of conditioner do you use? People who are deemed to be essential workers keep hearing compliments like these since the coronavirus pandemic hit and now they’re posting jokes about it online.

To brighten up your day, Bored Panda has collected some of the most hilarious essential worker memes. Enjoy and remember to upvote your faves! And if you’re an Essential Panda, tell us what life is like for you now in the comments.

Essential employees are healthcare professionals, police officers, firefighters, grocery store employees, fast-food workers, truckers, and every single person who keeps civilization functioning during the quarantine. (Oh, and tax collectors are considered to provide essential services in some places, too.) Bored Panda spoke with Dr. Eddy Ng, the James and Elizabeth Freeman Professor of Management at Bucknell University, about essential workers. Scroll down for our interview with him.

so true!

“Although we hear the term ‘heroes’ being used to describe many essential workers, the term is apt because they perform work that can bring harm to themselves and potentially their families,” Dr. Ng said. “Not all heroes are idolized or worshiped, but there is certainly an element of bravery and self sacrifice here. Thus, the term hero is an expression of gratitude by the collective or community who are dependent on these essential workers. Since many of them are not being paid much or don’t have a choice but to come to work, the term ‘hero’ also provides intrinsic motivation and fulfillment for these workers.”

The professor added that there’s greater recognition of how critically important these workers are now because our health, safety, and survival depends on them. “This gratitude will pass when the pandemic is over and things return to normalcy, thus it is important for us to recognize their contributions now.”

“Few employers (e.g., Cargill, Safeway) are providing better compensation but that also reflects a rapidly declining supply of labor (workers are getting sick) and employers enticing others to join the labor market,” Dr. Ng explained. “Employers need to do more, such as providing the tools to perform these jobs safely. At the very least, they need to provide a pay premium (‘hazard pay’) when asking workers to perform work that can expose themselves to harm.”

We’ve all heard how these hard-working Pandas are being called heroes, but is that term being overused, especially when we look at how little they’re being paid for their efforts?

The fact is, “thank you’s” don’t pay the bills and being an everyday superhero doesn’t pay all that well. So a lot of essential employees have that in common with comic book superheroes!

Some essential employees are sick and tired of being complimented, celebrated, and hailed as heroes. Why? Because they don’t have any choice: they work their low-paying jobs because they need them to survive.

There have been a bunch of other policy changes too. Some have been good like for units dealing with coronavirus there are pay raises available. “Essential”. Call them exactly how their employers see them, expendable. You don’t pay them enough so they have to risk their lives for minimum wage but hey at least in the uk we all clapped for them at the same time, maybe they can pay their bills with that.

They drive a Mercedes. They’re getting paid. I’ve much more sympathy for minimum wage cashiers who have 100+ people standing in front of them every day.

Many delivery drivers have increased targets for delivery numbers as people are ordering more and the companies attitudes are ‘oh well, the roads are empty so you’ll get round faster’. Don’t think it’s been made easier for them at all.

“Hello, it’s me, I’m in California dreaming about going out to eat.” These are the opening lyrics from American singer Chris Mann’s amazing music video Hello (from the Inside), a parody of Adele’s smash hit Hello.

With over 5.88 million views on YouTube, Chris’s video perfectly captures how a lot of us Pandas feel stuck inside at home all day, every day. From self-isolation and social distancing to missing the little pleasures in life, Chris touches on all the small aspects of living in “Corona life.”

I don’t know about you, dear Readers, but this is a real earworm and it’s going to be my daily life soundtrack for the foreseeable future.

Check out Chris’s parody music video about life at home during the coronavirus quarantine

Most people who are self-quarantining will get Chris’s jokes about endlessly looking at cat memes, missing our neighbors, constantly FaceTiming with our friends, not showering, and not putting on pants anymore. Well, maybe not the last two.

This isn’t the first time that 37-year-old Chris has made parody music videos about Covid-19. He has two others: My Corona, based on My Sharona by The Knack, as well as Stay Home and Vogue, a spoof of Madonna’s Vogue. We definitely suggest checking them out for some more light corona-humor.

Chris is a professional singer-songwriter

If you’re not familiar with who Chris is and you’re wondering how he got his excellent voice, then you should know that he’s a professional singer-songwriter and recording artist.

He won fourth place in NBC’s second season of the singing competition The Voice in 2012. Later on, he came in first on Team Christina Aguilera, representing the star in the final round. He also played the titular character in The Phantom of the Opera National Tour in 2015 and 2016.

Chris has two albums, Roads, which he released in 2012, and Constellation, released in 2016.

People absolutely loved the singer’s video

Here are the lyrics for Chris’s song so you can sing along!

Hello
It’s me
I’m in California dreaming about going out to eat
Just a burger
With cheese
Or a shaken margarita, baby back ribs from Chili’s

Hello-o-o
Can you hear me?
I am shouting out to neighbors who I used to like to see
When we were outside
And free

Is there something else to watch
Besides the news and Finding Dory
There’s social distance between us
And I’m freaking out

Hello from the inside
It’s just me and myself and I
And a Stay Home order that’s breaking my heart
But it’s clearly what we should have done from the start

Hello from Corona life
I’ve FaceTime called a 1,000 times
To show you I’m sitting right here on the couch
What’s the point of putting on pants anyhow, anymore?

Hello
How are you?
Do your fingers hurt from scrolling through
All the cat memes on your iPhone?
I hope that you’re well
Did you ever make it out of that town
Before they closed the Costco?
It’s no secret that the both of us
Haven’t showered yet

Hello to Corona life (Corona life)
They’re saying stay home till July? (til July)
Jesus Christ, Almighty
Can you please send me strength?
I’m so sick and tired
Of my own Goddamned face

Hello from self quarantine (quarantine)
I’m begging Amazon to please (Amazon to please)
After sending more soap, can you please figure out
How to send a box of my friends to my house?

I’m so bored
(Help! Help! Help! Help!)
Ooh, I’m so bored
(Help! Help! Help! Help!)
Ooh, I’m so bored
Ooh…
I’m so bored! (Help! Help!)

Hello from the inside
It’s just me and myself and I (Myself and I)
And a Stay Home order that’s breaking my heart
But it’s clearly what we should have done from the start

Hello from Corona life (Corona life)
I’ve FaceTime called a 1,000 times
To show you I’m sitting right here on the couch
What’s the point of putting on pants anyhow, anymore?

When you visit somebody’s home, you can tell a lot about who they are as a person from the things they have to the way everything’s designed. But have you ever walked into someone else’s bathroom and thought to yourself, “Holy cow, this is amazing/horrible!” and wanted to stay there forever or leave and never come back?

Well, we’ve collected some of the most interesting and weirdest bathroom design pics to both inspire and terrify you from the Weird Secondhand Finds That Just Need To Be Shared Facebook group! Scroll down, enjoy, upvote your faves, and when you’re done, check out our previous article about other brilliant bathroom design ideas.

Who wouldn’t want to have a gilded bathroom that looks like it’s from a palace? Probably the person who has psychedelic bathroom tiles everywhere that make our eyes hurt. There are some basic rules when it comes to designing the perfect bathroom, but not everyone’s aware of them.

That’s lovely. The floor doesn’t match which is good.

For instance, California architect Dylan Chappell points out that one of the first things that you should think about when remodeling your home and relocating your bathroom is whether or not there’s a window or a skylight there. Natural light makes the room more pleasant to be in. Not to mention that having a window helps prevent mold building up from all the damp.

Another thing that you should keep in mind is that when you open your bathroom door, the toilet shouldn’t be the first thing that you see. Of course, not everyone has the luxury of owning a home with enough space to build the perfect restroom or two separate restrooms, one with a toilet and another one with a sink or shower. But it’s definitely something that we should be aware of.

Chappell writes that “Bigger isn’t better; better is better. Whether you’re designing a large master bathroom in your dream home or trying to figure out how to squeeze in an extra bathroom for your growing family, the most important aspect of your new bathroom is that it has a great design that functions efficiently for your specific lifestyle.” In other words, focus on quality, not size.

“The truth is, great design is less about how a bathroom looks (although it’s always nice when it looks fantastic) and more about how it works. Great design translates to a house that functions better, costs less to build, is more efficient to maintain and gets you more for less,” Chappell added, stressing that at the end of the day, a bathroom is all about function. Though it can’t hurt if it looks amazing (or at the very least… interesting)!

Dogs behave in the cutest ways. We already saw that with one doggo that went viral because she finds the fluffiest dogs in daycare so she can nap on them. Another canine who became an internet sensation is Ruby, a German shorthaired pointer that shows her affection for other dogs by petting them!

Ruby goes to The Den Doggy Daycare in Burlington, Ontario, together with her brother Miles. It was there that the owner of one of the other dogs noticed Ruby’s strange but adorable behavior a few months ago.

“She does it every time she is in. We think she wants attention!” dog Lexy’s owner Alanah Lorraine told the Dodo about Ruby petting and patting other pets at the daycare. Scroll down for Bored Panda’s interview with Spencer from The Den Doggy Daycare.

When one woman filmed Ruby the dog petting other dogs, her video instantly became popular on the internet

Even the very popular We Rate Dogs Twitter account shared the news about Ruby

According to Spencer from The Den Doggy Daycare, Ruby pets other dogs almost every single time that she comes to daycare. “She usually starts with her brother Miles and as the other dogs in daycare start to chill out, she will get to work on them as well. Miles doesn’t seem interested in giving pets, just receiving.”

“We think it started with trying to get Miles’ attention or to play with him and just evolved from there, most of her friends at daycare don’t mind and see it as her playing with them,” Spencer told us.

People couldn’t get enough of Ruby petting other dogs!

He also pointed out that they’re the only daycare in Burlington that offers free roam indoor/outdoor daycare. “For the last 3 years, we have won the award from the Burlington Post for Best Doggy Daycare. Our staff that work with the dogs are the absolute backbone of our service and are amazing with the dogs, we could never do this without the team we have.”

“We are so grateful to see everyone enjoying the video Alanah made and now everyone gets to experience the happiness dogs like Ruby bring us every day,” Spencer added.

The other best boys and girls at the doggy daycare often seem confused, befuddled, and bewildered by Ruby’s actions. Their reactions are priceless! However, they still seem to enjoy Ruby petting them with her paw.

“Most dogs aren’t bothered by it and just let it happen,” Alanah said. She started filming Ruby’s interesting way of showing her love for others every time she saw it happen.

Then, she compiled all of the clips together and posted the video on TikTok where it got more than 620.4k views and over 144.8k likes at the time of writing. The video was also shared by the incredibly popular We Rate Dogs Twitter account and got 7.7 million more views!

According to Alanah, she thought that the video would be adorable. However, she never imagined that it would be as popular as it is.

When dogs paw at each other and their owners, this can mean a lot of things. For instance, they might want attention or for others to play with them. Also, doggos can start pawing when they need something else, like food and they’re trying to “subtly” get your attention.

But, at the end of the day, the explanation can be simple: dogs are pack animals, they want to feel connected to others, so they reached out with their paws to touch other dogs and people.

Even though our pets can probably sense how anxious some of us are, they couldn’t be bothered with the crisis going on in the world right now. For what they care, their beloved owners are staying at home only to shower them with attention. So if any good comes out of the quarantine, apart from all the saved lives, it’s that you get to spend more time with your four-legged buddy. Some of us are making the most of this opportunity.

Anthony Hopkins recently shared what he’s doing while in self-isolation

One of those people is the well-known 82-year-old actor Anthony Hopkins, who is currently self-isolating and spending time playing the piano for his beloved pet Niblo.

Turns out, the 82-year-old actor is alone at his house and spends his time playing the piano for his cat Niblo

Niblo is making sure I stay healthy and demands I entertain him in exchange… cats 🤷🏼‍♂️

A post shared by Anthony Hopkins (@anthonyhopkins) on

If you’re following Hopkins on social media, you already know about the special bond he shares with the adorable feline.

Clearly, the pair is inseparable and enjoys each other’s company. Hopkins’ fans also know that he has a passion for classical music.

Apparently, the man is an avid composer. “I’ve been composing music all my life and if I’d been clever enough at school, I would like to have gone to music college. As it was, I had to settle for being an actor,” he told the Guardian.

Recently, the actor went viral for sharing a glimpse into his life in self-isolation. In the video, posted last week, Hopkins films himself playing piano for Niblo, who seems to appreciate the pleasant melody. “Niblo is making sure I stay healthy and demands I entertain him in exchange… cats,” he captioned the video on Instagram.

Hopkins’s wife, Stella, told Page Six that her husband is well. According to her, he’s at home “painting, playing the piano, and reading.” Being in his 80s, the actor is among the demographic that is the most vulnerable to coronavirus.

Social isolation does exactly what it says—first, it helps to curb the pandemic, and second, it shuts down our social life. The latter, however, is a pain in the rear. And while many of us recharge our sanity batteries via digital streams, there’s nothing quite like real human company.

But the lockdown is making us all a tiny bit more creative. When Lizzie Bartelt put a poster asking “What’s the white cat’s name?” on her window, she didn’t see it coming. Chris, her neighbor living right in front of her, replied with “David Bowie” in red capitals. The window tale has now gone viral with 638K likes, 112K retweets and counting. Who wouldn’t like to have neighbor goals like this!

Even if living under lockdown entails weeks of uncertainty, it’s not impossible to live and have some fun with it. Use the resources you have—let the balcony be your stage and the neighbors your audience. A group of neighbors in Spain did exactly that. They decided to sing the Happy Birthday song to an 80-year-old lady from their windows and everyone was cheered up instantly!

Meanwhile, Italians are known to love their piazzas bustling with people, food and music. But the lockdown has made it impossible. That’s why crowds of neighbors all around the country are gathering on their balconies for some improvised concerts.

The trumpeter Anguzza, who performed John Lennon’s song from his balcony in Sicily, found the lockdown challenging. “One day I am playing for hundreds, even thousands of people, the next—I am home, in my room, trying to share as much as possible my music to cheer everyone up,” he commented for nbc news.

Chris, the white cat’s owner, shared the story on Twitter and over 636k people found it wholesome

It also led to Lizzie and Chris finding each other online!
