These comics are like little guessing games that make you want to guess what happens next. After 11+ years of working as an illustrator, I started a personal project to express my curiosity through comics and post them regularly on social media. It has been a fun journey and it rekindles the curious child in me again.

I hope you enjoy these random ideas amidst the sometimes mundane and challenging days in life. When we are born, we are intensely curious about the world around us. Let’s keep the curiosity in our hearts alive and look beyond what we see!

If you are interested in seeing more of my comics and illustrations, you can click here, here, here or here!

If you are curious about what I will draw next, follow me on my social media to check it out!

When it comes to street art, there are usually two different opinions. One says that we can hardly call it ‘art’ and that it’s destroying the architecture in cities, while the other considers it art that not only colors the grayness of the concrete walls, but also gives more soul to old buildings. However, it is hard to argue about the works of one artist who is best known by the name EFIX since they actually help to ‘restore’ the city. Scroll down for Bored Panda’s interview with the artist!

Love the incorporation of this one 🙂

30-year-old Barcelona-based artist EFIX is not only a street artist, but also a graphic designer and musician. He uses his art to ‘fix’ the ugly cityscape, such as cracks in concrete walls, broken pipes, etc. His tools are his humorous cartoons and illustrations of pop culture characters who perfectly blend into walls and sidewalks, interacting with their surroundings in a completely natural way and making streets look more alive. “I work a lot with Disney and Simpsons characters in general because they have already lived all the lives that any human being can have, so usually, when I see a shape that I like in the street, I take a picture of it and then I look at the photo every day to find an idea. Once I have the idea… I try to move it to the world of cartoons so that it touches my viewer even more easily,” says the artist.

Yes! This is a classic!

His career as a street artist started five years ago when he began to notice the unpleasant features of streets and buildings in Barcelona. That’s actually where his motivation and inspiration come from! EFIX decided to use his artwork to cover these unpleasant features and make his city even more beautiful. “What I like the most about street art is, first of all, the emotions it causes in people in general when I do my street art. I have a city cleaner costume, I put it on and then I sit in the street and watch the passers-by marvel at it, especially the children. It’s such a pleasant feeling to see a smile born on a face. And more personally, I like the feeling of giving something without expecting anything in return. Street art has taught me this value and it’s really rewarding.”

“My street art, in my eyes, wants to be positive street art. That’s why I take care never to damage the supports around me. I don’t want to disturb anything, so I prefer to make ephemeral art—I find that there is a real poetic sense in that. This is why I use materials that do not stay over time, i.e. paper supports. And I use water and flour-based glues to create a texture that dissolves easily in the rain, or if the owner does not endorse my art. Just before creating the work, I take a photo of the wall and come with a meter to take its measurements. Once I have the proportions of the visuals, I go home and I draw it in the right dimensions. At one time, I tried to create my own colors with flower pigments, but I had a little trouble killing the flowers for my personal pleasure. And then, at nightfall, I come to paint my street art so that in the morning, it can work its magic on passers-by,” the artist explains his creative process.

The artist draws popular and easily recognizable pop culture characters that come from cartoons and that most of us associate with our childhood. “I like to use Disney characters because they have a very strong relationship with childhood and touching the viewer at the root is even more beautiful in my eyes,” explains the artist. From The Simpsons, Tom & Jerry, to the Lion King and Mowgli and many more, it surely gives us that feeling of nostalgia and perfectly decorates the streets of Barcelona.

I tawt I taw a puddy tat..

“I started street art because I come from a big art school where you have the designers who end up in Pixar’s studios, for example. But I preferred to be interested in music, personally. Since leaving this school, I’ve had a very strong relationship with the street, where my job at the start was to record street artists and to mix my influences with theirs. I was very quickly influenced by the street because during the day, I recorded them with my microphones and at night, I composed. It leaves you with this feeling that the world belongs to you and you can then rediscover the world as you see it,” says EFIX. “I just want to say that no matter who we are, we have to believe in ourselves because nobody will do it for us. And if you have some crazy ideas, follow your ideas to the end. The world needs creativity, that’s what feeds it!”

I’m Lim Heng Swee, an illustrator based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My mantra is “Doodling a Smile” which aims to make people smile more in their daily life through my art. Recently, I started to explore minimal landscape art and found that the curves and shapes of the land have a lot of similarities with the curve and shape of the cat. I tried to blend the two elements together and the result is surprisingly great. It’s like the surreal view you can see if you landed into a cat planet which is super cool! I have spent 20 days to create 20 illustrations for this series, hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I am creating them. Cheers.

A comfy bed and a good night’s sleep are essential when it comes to brain function. Slipping into a freshly made bed with lush, fresh bedding really can set the tone for how easily you’ll settle into a peaceful slumber.

Once you drift off to sleep, there really is no limit to where your dreams may take you. Sometimes unbelievable and seemingly impossible, your dreams really can have a huge impact; changing your mind on something you were sure you were certain of, making you question what you once knew – the power of dreams can be hugely underestimated.

The Mill Shop wanted to explore what impact dreams have had on the world over the years. We’re not talking daydreams either, but full-blown, from the depths of the subconscious kind of dreams… and we were not disappointed!

James Watson – DNA Double Helix

The discovery and theory of DNA had already been devised, but the shape and structure had eluded scientists. That was until 1953 when James Watson dreamed of two snakes intertwined, paving the way for the familiar double helix structure we see today. However, it was noted by Watson that his scientific masterpiece was almost suppressed; the theory of the double helix seemed so ludicrous at the time, that it was met with hostility and outrage when he first showcased the idea.

Mary Shelley – Frankenstein

One of the most iconic pieces of horror fiction ever written, it’s said that the story of Frankenstein came to Mary Shelley when she experienced a vivid nightmare. At the time, Shelley was just 18 years old and was visiting Lord Byron by Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Whilst there, it was suggested they write ghost stories to while away the hours of the cold, winter days. Unfortunately, Shelley was unable to come up with anything she considered suitable. That was however until one night when she took herself off to bed and dreamt of the monster that defined a genre.

Paul McCartney – Yesterday

Probably one of the most recognized and well-loved Beatles songs, it’s claimed by Paul McCartney that Yesterday came to him in a dream. He awoke to find he couldn’t get a melody out of his head so began to play it on the piano. Convinced he’d stolen the melody from somewhere, McCartney began to question those around him within the music industry, but after a few weeks, no one had claimed the tune, so he developed the chords and accompanying lyrics and the rest, as they say, is history.

Larry Page – Google

You’d be hard pushed to find anyone these days that hasn’t used Google at some point. The biggest search engine on the planet was said to have come to its creator during the early ’90s, in a dream where Page somehow managed to download the entire web and just keep the links. Once awake, Page immediately set about devising the algorithm that would pave the way for the Google we know and love today.

Albert Einstein – Theory of Relativity

Sticking with defining scientific developments, we’d be foolish not to include probably one of the biggest “accidents” there ever was. Known for his vivid imagination, it’s no surprise that Einstein’s dreams were also pretty intense. So much so, it’s said that his most famous achievement came to him in a dream. Once he awoke, he meditated on the idea and soon formulated one of the most famous scientific theories in human history.

Niels Bohr – Structure of the Atom

Probably one of the most significant scientific developments of all time, the discovery of the atom structure redefined physics and what we know about the world around us. At the turn of the 20th century, Neils Bohr had set about understanding the structure of the atom but no configurations seemed to fit. After many attempts to make it work, the worry he was fighting a losing battle started to set in, that was until he went to sleep one night and everything just seemed to fall into place. The idea of atoms fitting a similar structure to how the planets revolve around the sun just seemed to make total sense.

When it comes to choosing between dogs and cats, usually there are two kinds of people. The ones that adore the friendly, loving, loyal, and sometimes overly excited nature of dogs and the ones that love playful, active but independent feline company. We cannot deny the fact that both of them have some amazingly unique traits that make us love them but at the same time, there are some things that we could easily live without. But that’s normal, isn’t it? However, this time, let’s talk more about cute but independent felines!

More info: Instagram | behance.net

#1

As much as some of us adore feline company, we’ve probably heard phrases such as “cats are self-seeking, cats do not cling to nor care about their owners, cats are treacherous,” and so on. But we know that none of this is true. They are by no means such things but are very loving and extremely friendly pets! But don’t worry, we’re not here to tell you that cats are better than dogs as the answer to which is better still remains unknown.

#2

#3

We’re here to show one extremely talented artist’s illustrations that show how loving and friendly cats can be. Margherita Grasso is an illustrator and graphic designer currently living and working in Milan, Italy. She loves to represent the world around her with colors and humor focusing on details that can be noticed only by sharp eyes. And so, she uses her skills to show us the true colors of cats in coexistence with humans.

Whether they’re napping together with kids, playing with old cassette tapes while their loving owner is listening to music, enjoying family trips, or simply playing with other felines. In fact, all of Grasso illustrations are so cute that it could have easily come from the pages of a children’s book!

In 2010 I made a five-month trip from Sydney to Beijing. During my travels, I met so many great artists and designers that I knew that as soon as I returned home to Germany illustration would be my new path.

I worked on watercolor drawings and portraits, but something was missing and it would take me months to find my personal style. I was looking for a fast and bold way to bring the images and thoughts out of my head.

So I started a series of illustrations called “Mindshots” inspired by my daily life. The title was born from the ideas that often pop out while working, talking, watching a movie, hanging out with friends or while being bored in the doctor’s waiting room. Some are socially critical, while others are just plain ridiculous.

My very first Mindshot creation was a bird wearing an oxygen mask. I had this image in my mind for months after visiting these huge cities with intense smog on my trip. After a few years, dozens of illustrations and positive feedback on my Instagram, I decided to make a book that included my 50 best Mindshots.

Last year I visited a book fair in Frankfurt with a rough draft of the book in my bag and now I am happy to say it is available on Amazon. Hope you enjoy!
